An Interesting Project

I saw someone make this for a music class on another music site I like. I was intrigued by the concept of the idea: make a soundtrack to one's life. I mean, there's plenty of songs that I think correlate to my life at any given point, but this assignment has one lay it out like a movie: opening credits music, making friends, fight scene, and then growing up, closing with an ending credits theme. So I figured, why not? In this moment,(following the set list titles of the assignment) I'd say these songs (overall) are the soundtrack to my life.

1. Opening Credits

2. Waking Up

3. Childhood

4. Vacation

5. Friendship

6. Growing Up

7. Falling in Love

8. Fight Scene

9. Breaking Up

10. Making Up

11. Life's Okay

12. Midlife Crisis

13. Happy Dance (apparently at this point in my life I'm bipolar, haha)

14. Regretting

15. Dreams Come True

16. Growing Old

17. Nostalgia

18. End Credits

Thanks for listening :)

Fishbowl World

I’m sitting on the edge of my bed in my dorm room, staring vacantly out the window. My mind is thinking about everything and nothing all at once. King, the Beta fish that has recently taken up residence on my roommate’s dresser, swims languidly inside his rectangular container. He swims to the bottom, then around to each of the sides. I consider the way I pace the room when I’m caught up in thought; my feet hit the floor, and I walk the rectangular perimeter of floor space leftover from the beds and other furniture. Perhaps King is thinking too. It’s the only way we can be free in this fishbowl world.

Emerging Clarity

Thoreau wrote in a letter to Emerson that: “it is the height of art that on the first perusal plain common sense should appear — on the second severe truth —and on the third a beauty." Recently, I've come to several conclusions that evaded me before. I used to imagine that everything hinged on common sense, but there are some things in life that transcend this monochromatic notion into an area only tread by truth. This truth can be debatable in how one chooses to face it, but all the same it is the common denominator for the realities one is exposed to. It is in coming to terms with these truths that beauty emerges.
The realization that there are layers to "understanding" is what makes finding answers to life's quandaries so difficult, and yet so captivating. In this way, I can always be an explorer, and never stop searching.

A mix of genres for (or about) contemplation:

Good Day, Sunshine

It's rained part of every day this week except today. It's been a beautiful day today, with a flawlessly blue sky and the big purple tulip tree on campus is in bloom. In light of this rare sunshine, I present a mix that's as upbeat as today was :)

Almost Summer Serenade

It's gone from constant rain last week to a bright, sunny, and surprisingly hot, 83 degree Monday here. People are out walking about in shorts, flip-flops, and dresses. It makes me wish I was at home, relaxing with some friends, or out adventuring with them, because then it would mean that it was finally summer. Summer was always this sort of mythical time: the days were endless, the fun times abundant, and tomorrow was always a promise. Here's a soundtrack for your daydreams; summer's just around the bend.

April Showers Bring...

soul-searching ponderings while gazing out the library window at the endlessly gray sky and wondering when this rain will finally end. Or maybe this foul weather is an opportunity to take a break from running around on sunny days and be introspective. Either way, this rain is ceaseless, and before I build my raft to sail back to my dorm, here's some tunes for a rainy Friday (have fun in your convertible, Rebecca Black.)

Here's to Hoping

I keep willing the semester to be over already, but I realize in a way that I'd regret it. These moments pass too quickly, and soon enough, I will graduate from college (only to begin getting additional certifications of course, but the "fun" part will be over). Yet some days, I just want the freedom to explore and see what life has to offer beyond the campus. Here's a mix for spring exploration, and the hope that a new day will bring new surprises, new challenges, and fresh opportunities to create memories for an interesting journey.

Can You Read This?

If you can, thank an English teacher. If you continued to read, thank your public library. Public libraries have historically provided free resources to readers of all ages. However, due to recent budget cuts, libraries are going the way of the Asiatic Lion, Siberian Tiger, and Red Panda: in danger of disappearing forever! Oh my!

This coming Saturday, April 9th, educators, librarians, writers and students from around Lancaster county will unite to read for the first annual Relay for Libraries.
for more information, check out this website, created by Literati, the E-Town College literature appreciation club: Relay for Libraries Home Page

Books were a huge part of my childhood, and are still a significant part of my life. In a book, I could explore jungles, solve murder-mysteries, and learn about myself as an individual through the perspectives of characters in novels. While I spend most of my time now reading for classes, there are some books (and movies about reading-- as well as movies based on books) that have never ceased to capture my imagination, and remind me just how exhilarating it is to get lost in a great book.

If you can, join Literati, and Elizabethtown College on April 9th in our endeavor to show support and raise money for the Elizabethtown Public Library so that future generations may experience the same opportunities for learning that we have had.

Fools in April

Today, Mother Nature pulled her own joke: it snowed. It's April. I guess it's to be expected for Pennsylvania, but still. I'm ready for some sunshine and warm t-shirt-and-shorts kind of days. Here's a weekend mix to help beat the still-cold-outside blues. No joke.
